Benefited Position - Tier 1 Purpose Statement The job of Counselor is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for impacting students' academic, personal, and/or social success; instructing, supporting, training, coaching, and mentoring students; managing the schedules and placement of assigned students; providing guidance, curriculum, information and recommendations to students and parents; and assisting in the development of goals and plans for achievement.
This job reports to Principal Essential Functions Administers tests (e.
g.
teacher designed tests, AIMS, DIBELS, etc.
) for the purpose of assisting teachers in assessing the level of student competencies.
Conducts meetings (e.
g.
Student Assistant Team meetings, etc.
) for the purpose of disseminating and receiving information and ensuring service delivery in compliance with established guidelines.
Coordinates assigned programs (e.
g.
truancy, homeless students services, gifted services, etc.
) for the purpose of delivering services in a timely fashion and achieving overall objectives of the program.
Coordinates with teachers, resource specialists and/or community (e.
g.
service clubs, courts, child protective services, CIA, food bank, etc.
) for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information and/or making recommendations.
Counsels students, parents, and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school.
Instructs students in developmentally appropriate personal-social issues (e.
g.
bullying, character building, hygiene, social skills, etc.
) for the purpose of improving their interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations for the purpose of managing student behavior, diffusing situations and minimizing disruptions.
Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.
g.
program participation, contact sheets, agency referrals, etc.
) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation.
Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.
g.
classroom, playground, assigned duties, school events, etc.
) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Monitors students' progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student success.
Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.
g.
lesson plans, behavior plans, 504 plans, etc.
) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Presents information to teachers and/or parents (e.
g.
positive behavior strategies, differentiated instruction, etc.
) for the purpose of enhancing students' academic and social success.
Researches program eligibility requirements (e.
g.
gifted and talented, special education, 504, sports, community programs, etc.
) for the purpose of providing up-to-date, accurate counsel to students and/or parents.
Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
applying assessment instruments; preparing and maintaining accurate records; planning and managing projects; using pertinent software applications; analyzing data; facilitating meetings; and using curriculum and instructional techniques.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
stages of child development; assessment instruments and techniques; cultural differences of student population; knowledge of community resources; methods of instruction and training.
ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.
Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment.
Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited.

Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
Education Masters degree in job-related area.
Equivalency Certificates Continuing Educ.
/Training Arizona School Guidance Counselor Certificate Maintains Certificates and/or Licenses Clearances Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance FLSA Status Exempt.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
