We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as a Meter Reader working with the Department of Utilities- Water Customer Service Division.
The ideal candidate will perform duties related to monitoring the City of Yuma Utilities Department residential and commercial water meters.
Under close supervision, this job classification collects accurate and timely reading of residential and commercial water meters along an assigned route; manually records water meter readings, and also uses automated meter reading (AMR) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) mobile hardware; checks meter operations, and records information on necessary repairs for City of Yuma's Utilities Department.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Reads residential and commercial water meters on an assigned route; records water consumption data using automated meter reading (AMR) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) mobile hardware; collects manual meter readings; downloads daily meter readings to computer and completes daily work log.
Reports outages, leaks, hazards, and unusual or suspicious meter conditions to a supervisor; disconnects meters as directed; performs minor repairs within scope of authority and training.
Assures that new AMI meters are registering properly, and checks for irregular meter readings; notifies customers of high consumption trends to check for internal leaks.
Retrofits existing meter with Advanced Metering Infrastructure hardware; records work data on work orders and spreadsheets.
Checks for water leaks and damage around the meter and meter box; keeps meter box and valve areas clean and unobstructed by clearing overgrowth and debris.
Responds to customer inquiries and complaints and reports information to supervisor.
Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations.
Follows departmental policies and procedures; reports City code violations to supervisor; observes and reports any utility service problems and potential problems, including service irregularities, and violations of policy and regulations governing utility consumption.
Cross-trains on additional Department work tasks as assigned.
Operates and maintains vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the Yuma Way, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience Guidelines High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year of customer service and computer experience related to water or other utility services; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of:
City policies and procedures.
Record keeping and file maintenance procedures.
Safe work practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
City geography, traffic patterns, streets, landmarks, and facility locations.
Skill in:
Following safe work practices, and verbal and written instructions.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.
Water Distribution System Operator's Grade 1 certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is required within one year of appointment.
Additional specific technical training and certifications may be required for some incumbents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather, and includes walking long distances; required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; requires vision capacity to read meter dials.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT Position is required to perform standby duty and be available for emergency call out on a rotational basis.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
