We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as a Code Enforcement Specialist working with the Department of Building and Safety.
The ideal candidate will have outstanding customer service skills and perform duties assigned as they apply to the City's Building and Safety Division.
Under basic supervision, this job classification investigates complaints regarding violations of building, safety, and zoning codes, documents findings and deficiencies, and issues notices for code violations.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Investigates complaints for violation of municipal building, safety and zoning codes; researches assigned cases, and equitably enforces codes and regulations within scope of authority and training.
Documents evidence, inspection procedures, and findings; issues violation notices, and updates computer records and case reports; explains codes and remedies to citizens in order to gain compliance.
Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the Yuma Way, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience Guidelines High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years construction or inspection experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of:
City policies and procedures.
State and local building, zoning, and safety codes and regulations.
Methods and techniques of inspecting buildings, structures and facilities for technical compliance.
Legal due process procedures.
Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Skill in:
Interpreting and applying building and safety standards, regulations, codes, ordinances, and policies.
Documenting observations, case history, and evidence identification and collection.
Dealing tactfully and courteously with the public, evaluating situations, and following City procedures.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.
International Code Council (ICC) Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification is required within one year of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a standard office environment, and in the field at a variety of public and private locations; may occasionally be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
