Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in payroll processing, maintenance of accounts, and reconciliation of benefit invoices to payroll deductions.
Front-line customer service professional, greeting customers and supporting the financial management and operation of the Yuma County.
This position has county-wide responsibility.
Example of Work (Illustrative Only) Responsible for processing payroll and checks results; ensures that all payroll deadlines are met in accordance with the pay period schedule; reconciles monthly benefits, and invoices as assigned; audits new hire entries, termination pay, refunds, and benefit changes; calculates retro pay, accruals, payoffs, and catch-up schedules for benefits; performs detailed data entry of highly confidential information; ensures the accuracy of data entry by analyzing the calculations of time and amounts; scans, files, and organizes payroll documentation, including warrants, tax forms, benefit enrollments, direct deposit authorizations, and verifications; prepares accounts payable demands for payroll deductions; assists with setting up, monitoring, and editing timecard groups, as needed; processes electronic files such as:
Nacha, pet insurance and Public Safety files; serves as alternate on Benefits Focus deduction files; prepares and distribute reports, paystubs, etc.
to departments and individuals as needed; provides excellent customer service in person and telephonically; answers questions of varying complexity from employees, departments, offices, courts and outside vendors; prepares employment and retirement verification forms; serves as backup for transmittal of direct deposit files, electronic retirement files, and taxes; serves as backup for running hourly audits to verify regular hours are reasonable; verifies retirement membership online via secure portals and provides information on differences in retirement plans and updates on the rules and regulations; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education High School Diploma or GED; and sixty (60) semester hours of post high school coursework in accounting, payroll, or spreadsheets and four (4) years of payroll/accounting and computer experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires successful completion of a background check.

County policies and procedures; payroll principles, practices, and reports; modern office practices and procedures; regulations and laws relevant to payroll practices; bookkeeping and accounting methods.

Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing.
Working at a computer monitor for extended periods required.
The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

Southwest Service Administrator (SSA) Mexico PPO Health Plan:
SSA is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan.
The SSA Plan pays 100% of hospital, medical, laboratory and prescription drug benefits, to a maximum of $5,000 per person per calendar year ($10,000 for two or more family members).
