NATURE OF WORK Under general supervision, performs technical work of moderate difficulty in inspecting building safety codes, zoning laws, and housing standards; this position has department specific responsibility.
Example of Work (Illustrative Only) Performs a wide range of field inspections at various phases of completion for industrial, commercial and residential construction projects to ensure compliance with building safety codes and approved plans; reviews approved plans for building safety codes, affects of zoning laws and housing standards to assure compliance with construction related laws and regulations; provides information to the public relating to adopted code requirements and other applicable ordinances; receives inspection requests; retrieves and reviews permits; schedules and performs daily inspections; responds to and answers questions and concerns related to field inspections; provides interpretations and resolves problems that arise during field inspections; meets with and discusses changes with contractors and homeowners and may authorize code compliance alternatives; works with and responds to staff and the public to address and correct areas of concern that arise during plan check, inspection and construction activities; issues approvals or rejections at each of the inspections phases; investigates complaints; follows up on code violations; issues citations for non-compliance to codes and deviations from approved plans and specifications; issues citations for work being done without necessary permits; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND five (5) years of experience in architecture, engineering or building trades; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; must possess a valid Arizona driver's license; must obtain ICC certifications for Residential Building Inspector and Residential Plumbing Inspector within two (2) years from date of hire; requires successful completion of a background check.
Hourly rate for this position has been revised effective 3/4/24.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:
Yuma County organization, operations, policies and procedures; Yuma County Comprehensive Building Codes and local regulations; principles and practices of the construction industry and building trades; Federal, state, zoning, and housing safety laws is preferred; materials and practices used in building construction trades and of the various stages of construction.
Skill in:
Understanding and interpreting building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical codes; detecting substandard materials and workmanship; establishing effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; following written and verbal instructions; communicating effectively verbally and in writing with the public, co-workers, and contractors; researching new and revised building safety codes.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public; follow written and verbal instructions; planning and organizing work; lift 25 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, stand and walk; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping and/or kneeling; and significant fine finger dexterity; generally, the job requires 35% sitting, 25% traveling, 20% walking, and 20% standing; working at a computer monitor for extended periods required; the job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

High Deductible High Plan - Health Savings Account (HDHP-HSA) or HDHP-HSA with Wellness Incentive.
HDHP-HSA Wellness Incentive for Employee Only option can receives upto $240.
00 annual contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card.
Southwest Service Administrator (SSA) Mexico PPO Health Plan:
SSA is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan.
The SSA Plan pays 100% of hospital, medical, laboratory and prescription drug benefits, to a maximum of $5,000 per person per calendar year ($10,000 for two or more family members).
